Jake just cracks me up! We had a nice, long chat last night. We talked about aging, death, love, marriage and his crush, Angela. It's funny, he is still thinking about her even though it's summer break! He confessed he has been going over in his mind some regrets in the past year in regards to her. He said he did a lot of 'dumb stuff just to show off' that he says he wishes he had never done. He said he did things like make big scenes with his friends just to get her attention.. he blushed as he was telling me these stories. I loved it! He even confessed... (which Biz called this one!) that he wanted to go to school early every day because Angela got there that early!! MAN! You guys know the ongoing drama of the early morning dropoff. I am so clueless- haha! He said she stopped coming early, but by that time, he enjoyed the early morning arrival. He told me how funny it was that "in 2nd grade.. I would come in the morning, sit in the line for the bell.. and there were girls everywhere.. I saw right through them like they didn't even exist! Then 3rd grade came.. and then I noticed Angela. I liked her the whole 3rd grade." I said, "Why didn't you tell me earlier?" He said, "It's hard to tell people that stuff. I would start to get up the nerve to tell you and then I just couldn't do it. It's emotional!"
What's amazing to me, being a mom of a boy who actually talks to me about stuff, is that boys aren't much different (in some ways) than us in regards to love. He's given me insight into the opposite sex a little.. and how we're different too! It's fascinating.
Anyway, here are some funnies from our conversation..
"Mommy, I hope when you die, it's in a peaceful way and not by something high tech like a nuclear bomb or laser gun."
"How old will you be in 60 years? 94? Ok, let's crank it back a bit.. how about you live another 50 years? 94 is pretty old."
Mommy: "Well, by that time you will have a wife and your own family..."
Jake: "We don't know that God is going to make me get married. He may have something way better than that for me!"
Mommy: "Well, I am getting a little older, Jake.."
Jake: "You're NOT old, mom! Grandma Barbara, now, she's OLD!" (and she is.. she is 89.. but she's a rock star.)
ahh.. I love our chats. He has so many ideas about things. He is such a thinker. I don't know where he got that from- ha! Anyway, just thought I'd share!
Today, is a good day because: I don't know, I can think of million reasons right now.. it just is.. life is good.
